Andy Hagerty is an electronic music producer from Scotland UK, who also records under the alias 'Electrovoya' with Greg Murray. As a solo artist Andy’s music covers genres from Electronic, EDM, and Trance, with noticeable influences from electronic pioneers Jean Michel Jarre, Kraftwerk, Vangelis, Vince Clarke, OMD, and contempories, BT, Chicane, DeadMau5, and Ferry Corsten.
Lying on a bed with hi fi speakers either side of your head is probably not the best thing for your hearing, especially when you are only 7 years old. This however is my earliest memory of listening to electronic music. My eldest brother John had bought Jean Michel Jarre’s ‘Oxygene’ and was encouraging me to experience the fantastic stereo 'zappy laser sounds’ in Oxygene 2. He always had synths in his bedroom and I remember him teaching me to play Jean Michel Jarre and OMD riffs on his Sequential Pro One. The seed must have been planted, as at the age of 19, after working all summer whilst at university, I saved enough to buy my first synth and sequencer, a Roland D10 and Alesis MMT8. My fascination for making electronic music was born.
I recorded under the alias 'Kaleid' when I first started producing (circa 1996), and was influenced by artists such as (unsurprisingly) Jean Michel Jarre, Kraftwerk, OMD, Vangelis, and Erasure. Later that year I uploaded my Red Jerry / Jarre inspired track 'Durrel' onto my university servers for potential fans to hear. ‘Durrel’ was picked up by members of the JMJarre mailing list and I soon had a small but loyal fanbase. At the request of my new fans, I started an online label and sold my CDs via the web.
As time progressed, other musical influences took hold, mainly House and Trance. Not everyone who liked my early material liked the new work I was producing, so I used aliases to indicate this. I used 'Andy Vask’El' for my House/Trance tracks, later becoming 'Electrovoya' in early 2004 with English producer Greg Murray.
From 2004 to 2005 Electrovoya released three 12” records on Fundamental Recordings, with our first release 'Whispers' going to number 3 in the dutch Dance charts. We watched 15,000 clubbers dancing to '‘Whispers’ at a Gatecrasher arena event in Birmingham, and later saw 30,000 clubbers go mad for our second release, 'Effervesce', when DJ Tiesto (then the no 1 DJ in the world) played it during his set at the Arnhem Gelderome in 2004. I had only ever aspired to have my music played in the small night clubs of Glasgow, so this was mind blowing to say the least!
MY ELECTRONIC HEART
I started work on my current solo album as far back as 2008 in between making time for Electrovoya, my day job, and a new baby. Progress was slow but in July 2012 I released 'My Electronic Heart'. The album sees me combining various genres of Electronic music. From the Kraftwerk inspired 'Sweet Sweet Robot' with its' vocoded vocals and melancholic lead lines, to the hugely uplifting melodic trancer 'The Doppler Twins', with nods to BT and JMJarre. I'm hoping to connect with new fans with the help of various social network sites, and hearing their thoughts on the album, whether good or bad.
